SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are investigating the death of a Savannah and Garden City businessman whose body was found on a vacant lot he co-owned early this morning.
The body of Christopher Mayville, 50, of a Grace Drive address, was found on the lot at East 61st and Abercorn streets about 3:30 a.m. by a search team of patrol officers from all five precincts who were walking the lot. The cause of death has not been released.
Mayville was the Chief Financial Officer of the Carson Company. The contracting company has been involved in many large scale Savannah construction projects.
A Central Precinct officer spotted Mayville's Toyota SUV on the back of the lot about 1 a.m. and police began investigating why it was there. Family members called police just after 2 a.m. to report they had not seen him since 9 a.m. Monday when he usually went to work as a CPA in Garden City.
Police called a tactical alert to pool patrol officers from all precincts to walk the lot and found the body in a clump of bushes on the back of the lot.
Mayville's neighbors say he was a family man often seen with his children. They say they're confused by what happened to him.
Violent Crimes detectives are investigating the death and events leading up to it. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). In the body type, include "CStop2020" plus the tip. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
