SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Advanced firefighter Thomas Lambert has been named the Savannah Fire and Emergency Services Firefighter of the Year and Moises Martinez has been named Rookie Firefighter of the Year. Lambert has been with the department since 2006, while Martinez was part of the 2010 class. Both men were honored during a luncheon Tuesday. They say receiving the award is not stopping them from becoming even better.
"Eventually make a full career out of it, get promoted, eventually make it to captain. I don't know if I want to go further than that but if I make captain, I will be happy," said Lambert, Firefighter of the Year.
"I have got to prove myself worthy of this award so I am going to try to step it up even another notch, continue with the growth process," said Martinez, Rookie Firefighter of the Year.
Both awards are picked by peer nomination and voting. From those candidates, captains and chiefs make the final decision.
