Savannah High's Kavon Freeman is the boys' player of the week. "It kind of has surprised me because I was trying to get it for a minute but this week I wasn't really focusing on it, just playing a big part on my team and get the win," said Freeman.

Blue Jackets' head coach, Tim Jordan, talked about his big man inside, "Just a tough hard-nosed guy. He's been a big one for four years and I'll really miss him when he leaves. He's one of the few kids who has come through Savannah High who never played JV. He's always been with the varsity since the 9th grade and he's one of the few guys in town who has won a region championship three out of four years. That's pretty good, I think."

Against Beach, Jenkins and Johnson, he put up his usual average of 11 points but his worth may be better measured by his 8 rebound average and he's also usually good for about 3 steals a game. Is he the muscle for this team? "Take a look at him, what do you think?" said Jordan. "Yes, he is the muscle. I know his back has to be tired, he's been carrying us for the last couple of weeks. He's the man, we go as he goes. We tell him when he has a great game, Savannah High has a great game."

Coach called you the muscle of the team. Do you like that role? "Yes, sir, I've got to get it done,"said Freeman. "I've been here for four years and this year I want to step up and do my part and carry the team."

Jordan added, "Kavon may get two or four points but he get 8 rebounds and 3 or 4 steals, block a couple of shots and just do the grown man stuff we need him to do. We tell him, this time of year, the team that has the most men tend to win. And, he's been a man for us lately."

"No matter what happens, it's my house and I can't let nobody take it from me," said Freeman. "I've got to protect my ground."

Saturday night, the Blue Jackets will host Hillgrove in a 6:00 game at the Ron Love Athletic Center.

By the way, earlier in February, Freeman signed a national letter of intent to play football at Albany State. "Coming up as a child I played football, basketball is just something I picked up second natured, so, I'm thinking football might be my first option," said Freeman. Jordan added, "Football may be his ticket to the next level if he wants to go to the NFL, if you notice basketball players are making great tight ends, Graham with New Orleans and Gonzalez with Atlanta, Gates in San Diego so great basketball players are making great tight ends in the NFL."
