BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) -
People are still talking about
the teacher who admitted she had an affair with her middle school student.
Now, a prosecutor says the plea deal for the former Bulloch County teacher was
partly to spare the victim.
Amy Jackson was accused of having
an affair with a middle school student. This week, she pled guilty to statutory
rape and two lesser charges. She was scheduled to stand trial next week.
District Attorney Richard Mallard tells WTOC one reason for the plea deal was
to protect the victim so he would not have to testify.
"This is something we went over
with the family. They were there, sitting in the front row. They knew what we
were doing," said Mallard.
Jackson will serve between a year
and a year and a half in a probation detention center. She will have surrender
her teaching credentials. She is also banned from Bulloch County and must
register wherever she lives as a sex offender.
