SPRINGFIELD, GA (WTOC) -
People driving along Highway 21 in Springfield got a big surprise as they passed near Springfield Egypt Road. The Effingham County Sheriff's Office says several people called complaining of a man standing on side of the highway wearing blue pants around his ankles and nothing else.
According to deputies, Alvie Collins, Jr., 24, was the naked man on side of the road, but Collins' family believes Alvie is being singled-out.
"The first thing they said was, 'Do you know why we're here,' and he said, 'No.' They said, 'Because you're the culprit from the last time," said Nancy Collins, Alvie's mother.
Back in 2010, Collins was arrested after being accused of exposing himself only on Friday afternoons. This time the accusations come on a Tuesday, but his family says despite the day of the week they're all lies.
Collins said, "That's my oldest child and when you blame my son for something he didn't do, that affects the whole family."
"You like if somebody lie on you, it would hurt. It would hurt," said Alvie's grandfather George Martin.
But deputies are confident Collins is the culprit because K9s led them directly to his home.
Effingham County Detective David Ehsanipoor said, "And according to witnesses, they positively identified Mr. Collins as being the person who exposed himself."
Two of those witnesses declined to comment. Meanwhile, Collins' family maintains his innocence.
Alvie Collins is being charged with public indecency and has bonded out of jail. His family plans to continue fighting the allegations.
