Man accused in girlfriend's slaying dead after standoff

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A man accused of the death of his girlfriend in Port Royal, SC, is dead.

Leo Scott died from a single gunshot wound after a standoff situation in north Columbus.  

Authorities said Scott killed himself.

A SWAT team was trying to talk Scott, out of a home located on 54th Street and Thomason Avenue. Police were called to the home around 9:30 a.m. Thursday after receiving a call about shots fired. 

Scott's father was also at the scene assisting authorities as they attempted to talk his son down. 

Police in Port Royal said Scott was connected to the slaying of Valencia Compton, the mother of his 3-year-old son.

During the standoff, nearby Columbus area residents received a robocall from police alerting them to an armed and dangerous murder suspect in the area.
