BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) -
A Statesboro man wanted on burglary and battery charges was arrested Tuesday by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Task Force.
Robert Lee Whitting, 44, of Statesboro, was arrested at a motel in Millen. He was wanted on charges of burglary, battery, theft by taking motor vehicle and hindering a 911 call.
Deputies and Bulloch County paramedics were called at about 6:23 p.m. Feb. 6 to the Eagle Trace mobile home park on U.S. 301 south on a domestic violence call.
A woman was taken to the East Georgia Regional Medical Center for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. The victim told deputies that she had recently ended her relationship with Whitting. She returned home, where Whitting was hiding under a bed. He crawled out from under it and physically assaulted her, according to the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office.
During the assault, Whitting grabbed her cell phone and stole the keys to her 2001 Buick Park Avenue sedan and left in her vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.
Whitting was released from prison in October 2011 after serving a three-year sentence for terroristic threats.
U.S. Marshals took Whitting into custody and extradited him back to Bulloch County. He remains at the Bulloch County Jail without bond pending further judicial action.
