STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -
A former Bulloch County middle school teacher avoided trial and pled guilty to statutory rape and other charges.
Amy Jackson was arrested in July on charges she had carried on an affair with a 15-year-old student. It included swapping sexual text messages and photos and, eventually, sexual intercourse.
Jackson taught at William Jamesl Middle School. Bulloch County School superintendent Dr. Lewis Holloway announced Jackson had been terminated hours after her arrest.
Jackson pled guilty to statutory rape, sexual exploitation of a minor, and illegally providing sexual material to minors.
She was sentenced to 15 years, with five years to serve. However, Jackson will serve 500 to 600 days in a probation detention center. She will also surrender her professional license and certificate. Jackson is also banished from the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit, Bulloch, Effingham, Jenkins, and Screven Counties. After her release, she will also be required to register as a sex offender.
Jackson will remain in the Bulloch County Jail until she is moved to a probation-detention center. She has been in the jail since her arrest.
