More unlocked vehicles gone through in Bluffton

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Several car break-ins happened overnight in two Bluffton neighborhoods.

Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office responded just before 7 a.m. to Westbury Park on a report that someone stole a handgun from his truck.

Deputies checked the area and found that several vehicles had been entered. As deputies tried to identify and contact more victims in Westbury Park, similar break-ins were being reported from the Baywood neighborhood, according to the sheriff's office.

More than 40 unsecured vehicles were entered between both neighborhoods. Several were rummaged through and nothing was missing.

Deputies continue taking reports of break-ins as vehicle owners figure out what was stolen. Items reported stolen includes a handgun, GPS units and other small electronics, cash, jewelry and prescription medications.

There was no damage to any of the vehicles and no signs of any forced entry were found, according to the sheriff's office.

"While we find it difficult to believe that so many vehicles were left unlocked, we simply have no evidence to the contrary," said Sheriff PJ Tanner in a statement. "As the investigation into these recent break-ins continues, the Sheriff's Office encourages citizens to protect their property by keeping doors and windows locked and secured at all times."

Those with information or who may have been a victim of a vehicle break-in should call either Investigator Cpl. J. Moran at 843.255.3422 or the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843.524.2777.
