EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

The Effingham County Sheriff's Office is investigating a case of animal cruelty and possible dog fighting.

David Ehsanipoor, public information officer with the sheriff's office, said that  animal control officers found Kekoa, a tortured "bait" dog, wandering near Old Louisville Road in Effingham County with parts of his face ripped away and his paws torn apart.

The dog is now recovering at Rice Hope Animal Hospital in Port Wentworth and is expected to be released and up for adoption on Wednesday.

Those with information about dog fighting or animal cruelty should call the Effingham County Sheriff's Office or CrimeStoppers.
