BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is searching for a Bluffton man wanted on forgery charges.

Ted Delamarie Ellis, 32, is sought on one count of forgery. Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputies were contacted Feb. 1 about a counterfeit check that had been drawn on a business account.

The owners of Destiny Adult Family Homes, an assisted-living community, told the sheriff's office that they had been contacted by a title company employee who said several of their business checks had been recovered from a recently repossessed vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.

That employee became suspicious of the checks because they appeared to have duplicate numbers and were all made payable to the same person (Ted Ellis), for the same amount and on the same date, according to the sheriff's office. That employee then contacted Destiny Adult Family Homes who confirmed that the checks were not legitimate.

One counterfeit check had been issued and cashed for more than $1,500 at South Carolina Bank & Trust in Bluffton, according to the sheriff's office.

Ellis was identified as the subject who presented the check for payment, according to the sheriff's office. He is described as a black male who is about 6 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs 235 lbs. His last known address is Mill Street in Bluffton.

Those with information on his whereabouts should call Investigator Cpl. J. Garcia at 843.255.3412 or the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843.524.2777.
