CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -
The Chatham County Spelling Bee pitted student against student in a winner take all sudden death tournament Monday. It took over two hours to crown a champion, but when the dust settled, Nio Williams from West Chatham Elementary took home the top prize. As one might imagine, he has some very proud parents.
"Unbelievable work ethic. Everything with how he prepares for it, his studies, you know with his school, his playing. He is involved in baseball. He just has an unbelievable work ethic, you know. Fierce competitor, probably gets that from his pops," said Mr. Williams, father.
Faith Drayton from Jacob G. Smith Elementary took home second place and four others tied for third place. WTOC's Sonny Dixon served as the pronouncer for the competition.
