With lousy economic news and trends, fueled by the Administration's lousy, growth-suffocating policies and uncertainties; with 45% of our jobless now out-of-work  6-months or more; and with the President's Lybian excursion now in clear-violation of the War Powers Act, time to launch some well-deserved bravos and boos.  The first "boo" goes to the President, stating in his Memorial Day address, that America's military is (quote):  "one of the finest fighting forces the world has ever known."  No, sir, not "one of," but, without question, the finest fighting force in the world, past or present, and thank God that it's so.  Speaking of our best-of-the-best military, "boo" to the Pentagon for, among its reductions, actually considering pay and benefit cuts for military members.  Service members, along with national security, police and fire personnel, put their lives on the line for us.  To lower morale there, is to be stuck-on-stupid.  Overall, 77-thousand federal employees earn more than many state governors. So, start cuts at the top, not with boots-on-the- ground. And a "boo" to our Transportation Secretary, driven to a new, fuel-efficiency window-sticker launch, in a very big, low-mpg, SUV. Not a thing wrong with SUV's.  But, apparently, leading by example is no longer cool.

And, some bravos. One to liberal Washington State, which, surprisingly,  just enacted Medicaid cost-containment, requesting Fed block-grants, rather than matching dollars, creating far more state-level policy and expenditure control.  And a bravo, as well, to Florida, where a new law will require any resident seeking welfare payments to pass a drug test. You want and need redistributed-income from productive-tax-payers, then earn and deserve it by, at the very least, staying drug-free.  May all of our states become unstuck from stupid, by rapidly rediscovering the value of long-lost common-sense.
