A group of Coastal Georgia and Carolina Low Country World War II veterans were honored with a very special trip. Savannah's Honor Flight program makes it possible for many of those who served our nation, now better than 60-years ago, to travel, at no cost, to Washington, D.C., to visit, for perhaps the first time, the impressive, expansive Memorial constructed in their memory and honor, a tribute for all times, to those in our nation who fought and sacrificed so much to help free the world from the dual grip of tyranny. While there, the veterans are able to visit several other military memorials as well.
Honor Flight Savannah has made three such trips to date, with others planned in the coming months. As mentioned, all veterans selected for the trips, do so at no expense. Since Honor Flight receives no tax dollars to support its mission, it relies totally on corporate and individual gifts. If you'd like to nominate a deserving World War II veteran for a future Honor Flight experience, or to help support this terrific effort, please go wtoc.com and click on "military," or email Colonel Ed Wexler at ewexler06@comcast.net. Any assistance you can give, financial or otherwise, will be a fitting tribute to those who, in the past, did so very much to ensure our freedom today.
