Awaiting the hoped-for return to sanity among the nation's electorate, the Republican Party unveiled a multi-step commitment to pull our great nation back from the brink of lunacy. In comparatively few pages, not the content-obscuring, two-thousand page variety, the GOP's "Pledge" covers the gambit of issues needing restorative-care, from taxes; to spending; to liposuctioning our bloated government; to our defense. One writer's reaction: "It's a little like ordering x-ray glasses from a comic book. You know they're not gonna be as advertised, but I like the GOP's effort so far."
"So far" is key, but is it far enough? Thinking not, a Frank Gaffney-led conservative think-tank group crafted an even stronger blueprint for action, called a "Peace Through Strength" Pledge. Focusing far more firmly on national security, than the "we can absorb another attack" school. Case in point, rather than reducing our nuclear arsenal, while Russia keeps theirs, modernizing and testing our deterrent nukes, along with resurrecting our missile defense capability. Seal our borders once and for all, and reject world-view treaties that weaken our sovereignty and freedom. Rejecting, without question, any attempt at freedom-killing Shariah law. Enhancing energy security, fully utilizing our own natural resources, rather than lining enemy pockets. And a foreign policy that firmly supports our allies, rather than pandering to those who aren't. The only language America's enemies understand is dominating force, and the willingness to use it. When it comes to our security, we've got to stop spineless, touchy-feely foolishness. The only way to protect our nation, our traditions, and our freedom is to re-build, then re-commit to projecting, decisive strength, America's ultimate shield.
