Memorial Day: We Must Never Forget!

Courage and sacrifice.  You see it every day.  You see these qualities in police, fire and medical first-responders, putting personal safety aside to protect and save others.  You see it every day with hard-working parents, having even more than one job, to support, educate, lead their children to become good, decent, productive adults.  You see it in the amazing grit kids display in dealing with everyday physical or mental challenges, chronic or life-threatening illnesses, with resilient smiles and can-do resolve.  And, then, the unheralded family care-givers who tend to the needs of those afflicted, whether child or senior.  These folks, and certainly others, are the domestic gold-standard of everyday courage and sacrifice.

But perhaps for most, the epitome of courage and sacrifice, are those here on earth, who continue to make the lives we lead possible, the brave men and women of our military, who've worn, or wear proudly, the uniform of our nation, committed to protect and defend the precious freedoms of the wondrous country, that we Americans are blessed to call home.  We think of the many who did so, heroically, from World War I to the present, and who, thankfully, returned safely home.  But on Memorial Day, especially, and every day beyond, we must think of the many thousands, who did not return, giving their full-measure, on distant shores, in defense of our liberty.  For their total devotion to the nation they served, we must always remember the legacy of freedom and love of country they've bestowed upon us.  And we must never forget the endless opportunities made possible for us, then and now, by their remarkable courage and sacrifice.
