This week marks annual national tributes for two organizations that impact the daily lives of every American.

The first is National Police Week, a time to reflect on the service  and sacrifice of the men and women of law enforcement, and especially so for those who've so gallantly lost their lives in the line of duty, their sworn commitment to protect all of us, no matter the ultimate cost. We all too often, take far too much for granted, the skill, dedication and courage it takes on the part of our local and state police officers, and sheriff's deputies, no matter the day, time or weather, to do all in their power to keep us safe.  Our law enforcers, at all levels, see and deal with the good, the bad and the ugly within our society.  Please remember and respect them, this week especially, but every other week as well.

And this Saturday, we pause, as well, to celebrate and thank all Americans, past and present, who've worn the uniform of our nation, within one or more of our five great military branches, all of which we're blessed and proud to have here with us in Coastal Georgia and South Carolina.  There is no more valued, nor vital calling, than military service in defense of our nation.

While the men and women of our Armed Forces repeatedly answer the call to confront and stop our enemies wherever they may be, the men and women of law enforcement share that protective baton here at home, joining with public-servant colleagues as critical first-responders within our communities, no matter the danger or need.  Please keep all of these great, courageous Americans in your thoughts, and be thankful to God for them.
