SAVANNAH MILE  The 200 Club of the Coastal Empire is preparing to host their 6th Annual The Savannah Mile Run on May 26 at 8:00 a.m. at Forsyth Park (on the corner of Park Avenue and Drayton Street). The local nonprofit is providing immediate financial assistance to families of public safety officials who lost their lives in the line of duty. This popular run will begin at Forsyth Park and continue one mile straight down Drayton Street, finishing on Broughton Street. This unique running event attracts all levels of participants, from children to experienced runners. The Savannah Mile will include five heats and feature a Fun Run Family Heat and five age groups, guaranteeing many award winners. All proceeds go to The 200 Club, supporting its founding mission to "care for those who care for us." The cost is $15 through May 24, and $25 May 25 and 26. Y KIDS RUN  May 19 will serve as the official Y Kids Run Celebration Day at Daffin Park. Help celebrate kids and their healthy habits as all of this culminates with a day dedicated to the Low Country kids at the Y Kids Run Day. This event marks the end of the first year of the program which began in September at the YMCA'S Heart of Savannah 5K.

The free event begins at 8:30 a.m. and will kick off with a 1 Mile Fun Run. At 9:00 a.m. K – 2nd grade will start followed by 3rd grade and up at 9:30 a.m. Upon completion of the run each participant will receive a Y Kids award. Following awards will be family activities, inflatables, face painting, food, and so much more!

Children do not have to have been previously enrolled in the program throughout the year to participate. Bring kids out to this event and they can log their first Y Kids mile at our Fun Run.

SUMMER NIGHTS   "Celebrate Life" by hosting a Summer Night party in support of the community funded services offered by Hospice Savannah Inc. bereavement support to anyone in the community; an overnight  children's grief camp; story keeping; massage therapy; music therapy; Pet Peace of Mind; and more.

Guests make a tax-deductible donation to attend parties which can be large, small, fancy or simple. Hosts and guests are invited for complementary Summer Night cocktails and appetizers at Perch at Local 11Ten before the parties on June 23. Invitations and full details will be available at the planning meeting. The event will take place May 21 in the living room of Hospice Savannah on 1352 Eisenhower Drive.

PET CARE  Jacob G. Smith Elementary School and TailsSpin Pet Supplies are joining forces to hold the Second Annual Pet Care and Adoption Fair on Lamara Street, adjacent to Habersham Village, on Saturday, May 19th, 2012 from 11:00am to 3:00pm.

TailsSpin is looking for groups and vendors who want to participate in the event. Last year's event drew over 1000 people, and participating vendors sold a variety of products including handmade pet clothing and accessories, jewelry, dog collars, and much more!

The fee to set up a booth is only $50. Vendors interested in having a booth at the event can get further information and an application from TailsSpin

A number of local area Pet Rescue Agencies will be present at this year's Pet Care and Adoption Fair with pets available for adoption. The event will also host local veterinarians, trainers, boarding and daycare facilities, nail trimming, dog washes, Savannah Kennel Club's Doggie Derby and Canine Agility, and more!
